Intro [WLKintro] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, I'm Vix…the giver of WLK info. This is the much anticipated sequel to one of the best games out there. Many of you may know me from the gfaqs boards and KD faqs as well as my KD website and Message Board. Yes, I'm KD crazy. I mean, how can I not be. This game is one of the best there is. Feel free to submit info if you want(see below)! I'll add anything to this. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Contact/Submit Info [WLKcontactme] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you would like to add anything to the faq... E-mail: VixDiesel@aol.com AIM: VixDieselJr Website: http://vix.250free.com/welovekatamari.html Message Board: http://s9.invisionfree.com/Katamari_Damacy/ If you choose to send anything via e-mail, please mark the subject KD or Katamari Damacy so I know your mail is not spam. If you see any errors, please tell me so I can correct them. Anything you submit, whether it be adding info or telling me I messed something up, you will get credit for it if you provide me with a username or e-mail address that you would like to get the credit with. Please point out to me what name or whatever it is that you want me to credit you with. If you are a huge KD fan like myself, feel free to join me and others at a KD message board I have set up: http://s9.invisionfree.com/Katamari_Damacy/ It's free and the only requirement is that you have to like or love KD. :-) You have to sign up to post(only to prevent spamming by bots and junk). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Controls [WLKcontrols] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The controls are fairly simple as they only really require you to use both analog sticks throughout the entire game. "OO" represents the analog stick. Up/Left Up Up/Right ---------- |\ /| | \ / | | \ / | | \/ | Left | OO | Right | /\ | | / \ | | / \ | |/ \| ---------- Down/Left Down Down/Right Left Analog Stick Right Analog Stick To roll forward: Up Up To roll backward: Down Down To curve left(right): Up/Left(Up/Right) Up/Left(Up/Right) To roll left(right): Left(Right) Left(Right Sharp turn left(right): Up(Down) Down(Up) Charge 'n' Roll: Up and Down Up and Down For this move you need to push one stick up and the other one down rapidly at the same time in an alternating fashion. Quick Turn: Press on both L3 and R3 at the same time. Brake: Tilt the left and right analogs sticks in opposite directions Face Left: Left analog stick down and right analog stick up, this will move the prince around the katamari counter- clockwise. Face Right: Left analog stick up and right analog stick down, this will move the prince around the katamari clockwise. "New Moves" Press L1 to perform a Prince Look. It lets you look around from the top of the katamari. The L2 button shows you the Normal Eye view and the R2 buttons gives you the Miracle Eye View. Use the Left Analog Stick to change perspective. Pressing L2 again to return to the game screen. Press R1 to perform the Royal Look. The Prince will fly high in the air so he can look at the katamari from all angles(not exactly new though it's got some new features tacked on to it). Use the R2 and the L2 buttons to zoom in and and zoom out respectively. Just like the Prince Look, using the Left Analog Stick with change the perspective and pressing L2 will return you to the game screen. Climb Over Obstacles - Though not entirely new, it's now part of the tutorial. All it requires is pushing up on both analog sticks to climb over and up an object that you are too small to easily roll over. --- Navigating the Select Meadow Use either the Left Analog Stick or the D-Pad to move around. Pressing the Square Button while moving will make your character run faster. Pressing the Circle Button will "emit" a little tune that, if you are near a cousin, will attract them into following you around. --- Select a Request To select a fan, you simple press X near the fan. You can press Start during a request to bring up the pause menu. This menu will give you two choices. You can either press the Circle Button to start over from the beginning or you can press the Square Button to end the request(this is the same as pausing the game in the original KD game and pressing circle to head back to the home planet). --- Selecting a Cousin As you progress through the game and "capture" cousins, you then have the ability to play as a cousin. To switch cousins, walk up to the cousin you want to now play as and press X. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Game Story [WLKgamestory] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Taken from the game: "The Great Cosmos...A world of mystery both tantalizing and terrifying...Not a very well publicized world, you understand, but a glamerous and influential world nevertheless." "Bold, yet sensitive, and rugged to boot. Tolerant and compassionate with a heart deeper than the oceans. Such is the Great Cosmos, and the King that rules over it is marvelous to behold. Except for that one time that he destroyed all the stars in the Universe. *narrator laughs* No big deal, really." "Having come to and realized the folly of his ways, the wisest of Kings sent to the planet Earth his beloved son, the Prince, and commanded him to make a katamari of ample proportions." "Tossed unceremoniously to Earth, the valiant Prince rolled the katamari entrusted to him by the King, rolling up more things than you can count: vaulting boxes, pencils, erasers, postcards, ramen, robots, cows, sheep, this girl, that boy, moms and dads, bicycles, motorbikes, homes, buildings, rainbows, clouds, islands, hopes and dreams." "The Prince rolled them all up, rolled and rolled, until the katamari was big enough to be lifted up to Space to replace the shiny stars that were so grieviously lost. And that, my dear friends, was the plot and purpose of the fabulous game called: Katamari Damacy!" "Its popularity recognized no boundaries or borders and it rolled right out of the game to bundle away the many and sundry ills that blight the modern world." "Overnight, the King found himself a superstar. The adulation of the crowd knew no limits." Fan #1: "I want to meet the King!" Fan #2: "I think he should be bigger!" Fan #3: "The King is so cool!" Fan #4: "I want to roll up more stuff!" "Oh dear, such a chorus! Fans crying out from all over the world for the magnificent King to do his thing!" As the camera pans out, only stars are seen around Earth. The astronaut comments, "Hmm...Still not enough stars out here..." --- The people of Earth fell in love with the King and the Prince after the first game and the Prince is taking requests. Whatever a fan asks him to do, he will do. The Select Meadow is where you choose your levels, save, options, and collection. Select Meadow Options(all options are appropriately explained in more detail in their sections if required) - House - Lets you save and load data. - Headphone Wearing Woodpecker - Options such as sound and vibration. - Tree with Two Birds - Photo Album - Podium with a Mushroom on it - Vs Rankings - Birthday Cake - Where you can find your presents. - Blue Katamari - Item Collection - Door - Quit Game ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Game Modes [WLKgamemodes] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is the basic "career" mode where you play as the prince(or one of his cousins) and you attempt to clear all the fans and such. The most played mode of the game. There is a 2 player battle mode similar to that of the original Katamari Damacy. There is also a 2 player co-op mode that lets two players control one katamari together. For both of the 2 player mode, more is explained about that in the VS Rankings and 2 Player Mode. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. Fans/Level Info/Walkthrough/Requirements [WLKlevels] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To access a Fan, just talk to them and they'll give you a request. After the end of a Request, you now have the option to try again or continue out via the royal rainbow. To unlock more fans, you just have to keep playing and going back to the fans you already beat. There's no specifics to unlocking a level other than just completing one. IF YOU GET STUCK AND IT NO NEW FANS SHOW UP: You have to play teh Black Dog level which is the Roll up the Sun Level. Even though at this point in the game you are not big enough to roll up the sun, you have to fail the level once for the next level to unlock. NOTE: There are NO eternal levels this time around. -------------------------- A. Clear, Great-Clear, and Super-Clear Explainations [WLKsuperclear] ---------------------------------------------------- These are basically the level of "completion" for a stage. Clear: If you succeed at the mission, the King will put your Katamari into the heavens, creating a planet. Great-Clear: If you do particularly well, the planet will glow. Behind the planet will be a soft, colored glow. Super-Clear: If you do extremely well, the planet will glow and have a star burst behind it. So for speed levels, the faster you do, the better the chances of getting a Super-Clear and the same for size, the bigger you are the better chance you have. Here is a ROUGH list of what the requirements are(Thanks to Myst Erik Ery and Sloobro, this is based on his game and the numbers they got, so ANYONE feel free to help out on this section): Stages and their Super-Clear Requirements: As Large As Possible: Stage 1: 30cm Stage 2: 90cm Stage 3: 5m Stage 4: 25m Stage 5: 2500m As Fast As Possible: Stage 1: 0:55.00 Stage 2: 0:55.00 Stage 3: 0:55.00 Stage 4: 0:55.00 Stage 5: 9:30.00 (I say -:--.00 because if you get say 0:55.15 your score will be rounded to 0:55, but you won't get the starburst. The King compliments you for your speed in each of the first 4 stages at 1:20.00 or faster, but you only get the starburst if you beat them in 0:55.00 or faster. In stage 5 the King compliments you for slower times, but you only get speckles around your Small Bang if you finish 9:30.00 or faster.) 50 Objects: 6m4cm4mm Gingerbread House: 95%(but 100% still sounds better, heh) Sweet Meadow: 95%(but 100% still sounds better, heh) Cloud Stage: 95%(but 100% still sounds better, heh) Paper Cranes: 100% Small Fire: 3m Middle FIre: 4m20cm Big Fire: 7m40cm VS Komusubi (Small Sumo): Win by Roll-up (157 kg) VS Ozeki (Medium Sumo): Win by Roll-up (241 kg) VS Yokozuna (Big Sumo): Win by Roll-up (348 kg) Underwater Size: 2m0cm0mm Underwater Time: 1:00.00 Race Size: 20m Race Time: 1:00.00 Saturn Small: 20cm Saturn Medium: 2m Saturn Large: 50m Save the Panda's: $100,000 Flowers: 90%(100% still sounds better, heh) Flowers Time: 1:00.00 Firefly: Dazzling Snowman: Well, head 50cm2mm body 12m works, head 10m10cm body 2m50cm works, I'm guessing anything works School Size: 3m80cm School Time: 1:30.00 Cow Bear Attack : Cow Bear, gigantic Zoo: 90%(but 100% still sounds better, heh) Time, Zoo: :50 is acceptable Tidy Up Time Attack: 1:00.00 Earth: 100% Roll up the Cousins: 2:30 1 Million Red Roses : 500,000 Roses Tutorial: anything works ------------------------ D. Start at center table @ 5 cm. Head toward Mah Jong Tiles @ one side, picking up enough insubstantial items along the way to reach at least 5cm1mm (I had 5cm3mm). Pick up longer line to reach 6cm3mm, and the shorter line to the left to reach 6cm6mm as you fall over the edge. 2. Quick Turn (R3 + L3, Vix, edit that with the "official" name if it isn't really called that. In fact, feel free to edit anything I write.), and pick up the line of Kintaro Candy underneath the ramp leading up to the couch to reach 8cm0mm. 3. Execute a sharp turn and head up the couch ramp. Once on the couch, take the further ramp to the left to the side table, picking up likely objects (AAA Batteries & Lighters if you're lucky) along the way.) 4. At the table, pick up the line of Mah Jong Tiles to the left of the ramp. 5. Turn around and head to the opposite end, where you'll find 12 Batteries in 3 groups of 4. Pick up these batteries from left to right, and fall off the right edge of the table. I was 10cm6mm Here. 6. Cross underneath the table to the LEFT of the cookie pan. You may encounter snails. Roll them up along with any other likely items (such as golf balls) you encounter as your cross. 7. Once on the other side, take a second to quickly hit the pot to the left to drop some cherries before turning to the right to snap up the rolls of thread. (13cm6mm) 8. Turn back around and circumnavigate the pot clockwise, picking up cherries and breaking off to collect the nearby Mandarins. (16cm2mm) 9. Head behind the couch and pick up anything convenient. Weave a bit for the Dango Dumplings. 10. Collect the Superglue as you head around the corner, and continue hugging the left wall to collect the 3 batteries and tennis balls. (18cm7mm) Quick Turn, and head up the left side of the Tennis Racket. 11. Spend a split second here to collect Canned Tuna, Canned Sweets, and Marmalade before climbing up to the desk in front. (20cm9mm) 12. The Mugs and Plates are crucial here, and will give you enough size to pick up the Milk Cartons, Ketchup, and Butter. 13. Quick Turn and head back the way you came, taking time to pick up any substantial items you missed on the desk. Of special note are the Cup Noodles & Bug Spray near the Tennis Racket, and Bug Spray next to the wall opposite. (28cm2mm) 14. Quick Turn again and head up the cookie sheet onto the table, collecting all substantial items thereon, including the Abacus leading to the couch. (29cm3mm) 15. Pick up (1) The Abacus leaning against the pot, (2) The Roach Motel on the other side of the sewing box, and (3) The nearby Mosquito Coil. (30cm1mm) 16. Pick up as many of the tapes as possible on the opposite side of the television, and do some clean-up of remaining substantial items, including: (1) a mini flashlight, (2) 2 Comics underneath the tennis racket, (3) A Cookie Tin next to the reclining fellow's head, (4) The Weekly Magazine that he's reading, and (5) the 3 Paper Tigers scattered on the couch. (32cm9mm) 17. With whatever seconds remain, go for the insubstantial items; anything to add those precious final millimeters. Using this strategy, my best time to 15cm on As Large As Possible 1 was 48 seconds, with a maximum size of 33cm9mm. Due to a combination of less effort expended and a less conducive start location, my best time on As Fast As Possible 1 was only 0:59. ---------------- Stage 2, As Large As Possible Walkthrough [Stage2ALAPwt] Submitted by The Confessor 1. Get to at least 5cm4mm. At one start location, there's some pieces of chalk to the right of you that will work nicely, at another, there’s a line of dice terminating in parsley that will work even better. 2. Pick up the Advanced Tadpoles in and around the ladle leaning against the television, and follow the nearby Hairpins up the ramp to the Inkpads. 3. Head down the other side to pick up the clump of Glue, and follow the curving line of Eyedrops to pick up the Film around the Mandarin Rind basket. Pick up the Shurikens stuck to the board, the contents of the basket, and the Canned Tuna. 4. Go underneath the table to pick up the Fried Shrimp, and Quick Turn on the other side to climb the ramp for whatever items you can pick up on top of the table. Ideally, you can handle this in two sweeps: down the table, quick turn, and back up the other side. The items here should give you 20cm. 5. Exit through the 20cm notices and try to run your Katamari over the Donuts before you exit down the hill through the gap in the fence. 6. Roll through the Apple and Wind chimes, and turn immediately to the right. Pick up everything you can on this blanket, and turn toward the left for the other blanket (with the Cousin on it), and especially the stacks of Sandwiches to the left of the end of the blanket. 7. When you reach 30 (you might need to return to the first blanket for a second to pick up a few more items), follow a line of 3 Cookie Tins starting beyond the radio at the end of the blanket. 8. Do a quick turn at the final tin, and look for a clump of miscellaneous items, including Dishwashing Liquid and Detergent, next to a large van. Snap these up and head up the ramp next to the stairs... it's quicker than using the stairs themselves. 9. Execute a sharp turn and pick up the Tulips and as much of the fence as you can. Now hit the bullhorns curving to the left, the Rabbit on top of a tire, and the Flower Pots and Trumpets near the ducks. 10. Follow the perimeter and roll off the edge. Pick up assorted vegetables, Pansy flowerboxes, and any convenient Glass Bottles. Follow the road around and pick up the cassette radio, Frilled Lizards, Mailbox, Milk Box, and Old Newspapers. 11. Around the next corner are some Morning Glory pots you can pick up, and another SHARP left turn will net you some Apple Cartons. 12. Heading back around should net you a Shopping Basket and Green and Blue Plastic Boxes. 13. Enter the rear portion of the level, and pick up the Dog & Laundry Basket before breaking through the bricks for numerous items including a Bonsai, two Flowerpots, and a Wooden Crate. If you can pick up all three of these, you're on the right track. 14. Use the stand that had the Bonsai on it to reach the road, and pick up the Skipping Girl and Drink Crate. Turn right at the corner and follow it to the end to reach 3 Tricycles. 15. Go up to the park to pick up the Cooler and Michiru Hoshino. Continue in a straight line from there to also pick up 4 balloons in a corner. If necessary, pick up the nearby (Trumpet-less) Ducks to reach 1m8cm so you can pick up the Garden Plants along the perimeter. 16. For the finale, head to the back of the level again, to the room with the Jackhammer guy to pick up a final Garden Plant, a Clay Figure (the single most substantial item in the level) and some rocks. 17. If you have any time remaining, mop up any small stuff (such as a Pansy flowerboxes) you may have missed. 18. Using this strategy, I've completed the 40cm baseline objective in 2:00 flat, and attained a diameter of 1m13cm1mm. ---------------- Stage 3, As Large As Possible Walkthrough [Stage3ALAPwt] submitted by slo_bro As Large As Possible 3 Walkthrough 1. Start under the table. Start moving while the King is still talking if you want; this is a method to save a little time as the clock won't start until you pick something up. Go straight forward and get the Hankos on a calculator. Hopefully the mice won't bump you around too much. Go right and find (and grab Superglue, then Eraser, then two Films, then lots of Erasers, then more Superglues. Climb on the chair and get the stuff on the plate. 12cm8mm 2. Do a 180 and pick up a lot of the Film on the chair. Turn right, and grab the three Canned Tunas on the way to the fridge. Go left and then forward to get the Batteries. Do a 180. Get the Cell Phones in a row, then the Daruma Head and Calculator, then go right and get two Apple halves. Pick up what you can to get to 18cm2mm. 3. Go around the big speaker, past four Cassette Tapes to pick up a stack of Canned Tunas. Now avoid getting bumped by Paper Tigers as you go ahead and then left to find and grab a stack of four small blue Expensive Plates. First Loading Screen 4. Do a 180 and go through the door, then right and up the sandals to jump outside. Drop all the way down, then pick up some Toast. Ahead pick up Kiddie Spades, Air Fresheners and Bug Sprays as you pass by but not through the area with the dung beetles. Reach the big stack of Air Fresheners; let a few fall on you. Go to the tulips and get some Honey, then turn right and go forward to pick up some single Bananas and Lollipops. Jump down to the road. 31cm 5. Circle around the thermos getting Cup Noodles and then Alarm Clocks. Then get all four Hair Dryers, then the Elephant Watering Cans. Pick up rice bowls and pancake-like things as you follow the road, down the hill and to the right all the way until you get the Monster Apple. Slide right and get Cup Noodles and Alarm Clocks until you reach 43cm. 6. Next to the kid pick up the big stack of Survey Markers. Then do a 180, turn left and get the Test Tube Sets between the stairways. Then go up the steps and get the Banana Bunches on both sides of the kid. Second Loading Screen 7. Do a 180 and turn left, go down the street getting the Thermos and then Garden Pots. Get the three Wind-up Pigs. Now go through the barrier and across the bridge. 60cm 8. Go straight ahead to the vegetable field, and get all four rows of whatever is planted. Depending on what's randomly in the four rows your size will vary after this. Now turn a little right and go down a hill, cut across a path and go the rest of the way down the hill. Turn right and follow the middle of the road, getting Blenders until you reach the intersection. Turn left and get the Laundry Baskets, including the ones on the boxes if you haven't reached 83cm yet. Go forward and get the Kettles if necessary. You want to reach 83cm so you can pick up the Turkeys. 83cm 9. Get the first Turkey, then go forward and a little to the right to get another Turkey next to a man. Then get another Turkey on the main road. Turn right with the road, then right again, and start getting red Field Liners. Go forward until you get the Daruma in the intersection, then turn left and start getting Bamboo Brooms. Follow this road around the corner, avoiding PE Kids and picking up tons of big stuff. Don't enter the schoolyard yet. Go all the way until you almost reach the green fence. 1m25cm 10. Turn left. Now if you want you can get the Bonsai trees, cross the railroad tracks and climb up the hill; that may be faster than my method. But I go straight, don't get the Bonsais, go slightly left around the lockers, and down the road until I come to a very steep hill. Climb straight up the hill, and go around the corner to your right and CnR across the bridge. Turn right and get the three PE Kids in the corner. Then go a little left and then up into the grass; go diagonally across the whole field getting PE Kids, a sign, and finally a Relaxed Teacher on a bench. Do a 180 and turn left, then get PE Kids until you pick up a blue-shirted PE Teacher by the fence. Turn right and get all the people by the little building, then go around the right corner of the building and get fencing and bushes. Go straight forward to the people by the house, then slide right into the Propane Tanks, then further right to the bushes. Go all the way along the edge of the apartment buildings getting all the bushes. This will get you to your 3m goal and then some! 11. Get the rest of the bushes and the couples, go down the hill and get lockers, then start picking up everything else! You can pick up trees at 4m20cm or so, and Combine Harvesters sometime before 5m. Once you're about 5m40cm get all the telephone poles, then the cars, then the overhangs on the far side of the pool, then the basketball hoops, then the van, then whatever stuff is left to pick up. I've used this route to reach 3m in well under four minutes, and I've reached just a tiny bit over 5m70cm this way. --------------- Stage 4 As Large As Possible Walkthrough [Stage4ALAPwt] Submitted bye slo_bro Start on bricks with a tall plant on the left side of the screen. Roll forward and get as much as you can of the stuff right in front of your katamari. Keep rolling forward and a little right, CnR if you want, and go through the break between bushes with a line of Fireworks. Get a Water Pistol, then another ahead and a little right. Slow down if you are still CnRing so you can get the two Kid's Shoes on a stone. If you're not quite 24cm to pick the shoes up, grab a couple Fireworks and then get the shoes. 24cm8mm While avoiding big toads, circle around to the left getting Fireworks - first 3, then 1, then 1, then 1, then 3 again. Now go through the doorway and pick up the five Plastic Wraps. Go down the hill getting more Plastic Wraps, and make sure you hit 29cm so you can get the paint cans. Get one paint can, then three to your right, then three to your left, then one more paint can by a box. 32cm Do a 180 and go (CnR) down the road getting Roach Motels. Keep going until you see a Hula Hoop Girl. To the left of her climb the stairs, getting all the Cookie Tins. Continue above and curve a little with the path of Cookie Tins and paint cans. Then turn right and go past the big mushroom, find a little path and swerve right with it, and roll until you can pick up the two rows of Tulips. 45cm Now find two Turtles or so and pick them up. Then get the three Kiddie Buckets stacked up, then the one to their left, and jump down onto the road. Locate the seated people to the left and get their trays and Fruit Baskets. Now go do n the road getting bananas and then four Soy Sauce Bottles, then the three Camping Pots next to the size barrier. First Loading Screen Go across the bridge getting the things you can; there will be some that you can't get. Now ahead of you there will be either a row of green Squash or a row of Banana Bunches; hopefully there are Squash because they add more to your size. In fact, if you're really going for speed, if you get Banana Bunches you might want to restart the stage, because it's gonna take longer if you find Banana Bunches here than if you randomly find Squash. Well, get the row of whatever, then the five Garden Pots in a row. Get the Yellow Squash, turn left and locate the thick bunch of plants with either Squash or bananas hanging from them. Try to roll on top of the little mound inside the bunch of plants so that you get both the top row and the bottom row of Squash or bananas hanging from the plants. Go forward, and when you reach the downward path turn right and start getting Squash or bananas. If you are getting Squash, after you get just a couple you might reach 68cm in which case you can immediately turn left off the path and look for Fireworks down the road a ways. But if you are getting bananas you won't be 68cm yet, so stick with the path of bananas and get them all. 68cm In either case you should now be 68cm or more and on the main road. Locate and get the two Fireworks on the right side of the road next to a flight of stairs. Then go forward and a little left (CnR if you want) to get three more Fireworks, then two cats. Continue down this road. Get Price Tags and Clay Stoves, then when you reach the blue Sports Bags get a few and then turn right. Get boxes and trophies, then three Kerosene Tanks. 1m or very close Do a 180 and go down the hill getting three Darumas. Then in the intersection, get Sports Bags until you hit 1m6cm. Turn right and get four Field Liners, the four Pickle Tubs. 1m20cm Turn right and enter the schoolyard. Get the whole Vaulting Horse (be careful not to leave any more than maybe one step behind) and then three Darumas. Go around the right side of the hurdles. Now you will find two rows of chairs with PE Kids; ignore the kids and (CnR if you want) get one row of chairs. Do a 180 and get the other row of chairs, then the hurdles. Continue forward (CnR if you want) and ravage the next bunch of PE Kids and chairs, then do a 180 and get the rest of the bunch. 1m70cm Now do a CnR swerving to the left through all the seated people. Get a few more people if you're not 1m80cm yet. Turn right and get the Vaulting Horse and the people under the tent. Turn right again and head for the Schoolyard's entrance (CnR if you want). 2m06cm Leave the schoolyard, turn left and follow the road. Get two Bushes. Now turn right, and you will see a lot of people in front of you, (CnR if you want) get them. Roll over the tables to the right of the street up ahead getting lots of stuff, past the cow, up the side of the hill; get bushes. Cross the bridge, get the bushes to the right of the bridge, then get the myriad stuff to the left. Second Loading Screen Now get the vending machine next to the small building, then pass through the field with the huge mushroom. CnR if you want; head down the train tracks and turn right before you get to the tunnel, get a Duct before you enter the schoolyard, then enter the schoolyard. CnR diagonally through the schoolyard toward the pool. Go down the waterfall getting what big fish you can, then believe it or not slow down at the bottom so you get both the fish and the table he's on. 4m20cm Ahead get the duct, turn left and get another duct, and to the right on a hillside get the three ducts with Human Towers sticking their heads out of them. Go left down the hill and get a duct, then forward into the construction area to get three more ducts, then a Falling Rock. 4m60cm Do a 180 and get two more Falling Rocks and two Barriers. CnR down the street. Get the tree at the corner of the tennis courts, then continue forward to get fencing and another tree. Turn left. Go down the street getting Harps, a Wooden Table, the Crane Games to the right, and finally two Flower Beds. Instead of going to the beach turn left, and get the whole Construction Fence next to some girders. At the end of that turn left, and ahead you'll see trees Only get as many trees as you need to reach 5m80cm. Get all six vertical girders; this way you'll quickly pick up nearly all of them. Then head down to the beach. Get a Palm Tree, head around the first building for more Palm Trees, and around the second building for another Palm Tree. Turn a little left and go to where the road heads up a hill. 7m40cm Go up the hill, then at the parking lot get all the cars to the left and then all the cars and the Pumpkin Carriage to the right. Head up the hill and get the orange-roofed Food Court to the right of the ferris wheel. Then backtrack and head for the left side of the ferris wheel. Position yourself so the Gondolas will stick to you, and turn left until you're facing down the raised path over water. Now this is fun, but if you want you can just wait for all the Gondolas. If you're here for speed and adventure though, wait only until you're 11m40cm, and then CnR hard down the path picking up little buildings and then the Elephant. If you roll into the big city that's fine. In any case you're at or very near the goal of 12m! Now go left and get the nice row of small buildings down below. Grab the four buildings by the gas station, get some colorful trees if you want, then get tons of trees at the top of the waterfall. UP there pick up the whole little town, and when you hit 19m you can even get all the Huge Trees up there. At some point around 20-25m it is good to head out into the water, getting Whales and a big row of boats. And there are little buildings in the big city you can pick up at around 25cm, and even more in the big city you can get when you're 30m (but some of the small buildings in the big city you will never be able to get in this level). At right about 30m you can get the building at the base of the ferris wheel, and the three Hot-Air Balloons. You will never be able to pick up the apartment buildings in this level. Go nuts and get huge! I know that my route is significantly different from good routes that some other people use; I know that people stay in the first area well past 50cm, and stay in the second area well past 3m for example. But this is the route that works for me :) I have reached 12m in well under 5 minutes this way, and I have built a katamari of a tad over 30 meters. ---------------- Stage 5 As Large As Possible Walkthrough [Stage5ALAPwt] submitted by slo_bro 1. Start next to the vegetable field. Pick up the Darumas in front of you, veering slightly left, and pick up the long row of Bamboo Fence. Go down the hill. Get all the Palm Trees and Slides on the way down the hill. Get the Jungle Gyms. Do a 180 and get the elephants, or get the red and green buildings above them first if you're not quite big enough for the elephants. Cross the road and go down the hill, getting Regular Trees. 10m30cm 11. Get the stack of Karaoke Buildings that look like trailers. Turn left with the road and go up the hill. Get 2 Regular Trees and head all the way up to the Ferris Wheel. Stand to the right of the Ferris Wheel and let all its cars (Gondolas) come to you. Second Loading Screen 12. Do a 180 and go over the red-roofed buildings to get the Plastic Greenhouses. Go straight, slightly uphill and then get all the Cherry Trees in a double row. Go up the waterfall, and then work a zigzag pattern forward and backward while sliding right, until you're 18m50cm and right in front of the big Apartment Buildings. Turn left, hug the cliff, and get all the Huge Trees. 20m50cm 13. Turn left before you'd fall in the water, and get 4 more Huge Trees and the buildings on the cliff. Go down the cliff and forward until you get the blue-roofed building. Turn left, go up the hill to get the flying whale and the red-roofed Mansion. Turn right and get 4 Huge Trees, then turn left and get the buses. 23m60cm 14. Go up into the big city, aiming for the building in front of you, you should pick it up. Roll to the left and get 3 more buildings. The screen should blur. Go forward, then turn left and get 2 more buildings. Go up the hill to the gas station. 27m40cm 15. Follow the raised highway as it swerves right. CNR from where the gas station was if you want, it's a fun CNR around a corner. Go just to the right of the road and pick up both the row of colorful buildings and the Huge Trees to their right at the same time. You might not be big enough to get the first green-roofed building, that's fine. 30m 16. Do a 180 by the arch, cross the road and get another row of colorful buildings while you also get a row of brown buildings to their right. Cross the river and get the buildings on the left side of the island. Do a 180 just before you reach Cinderella's moat, go slightly left and go along the river and then the bank, getting buildings along the way. 34m 17. Turn right before you reach the road surrounded by brown. Get the brown buildings, cross the road and get the colorful buildings, then get the right half of the colorful buildings in front of you next to the arch. Do a 180 by the Eiffel Tower, slide slightly right and get the rest of the colorful buildings. 37m50cm 18. CNR if you want, go down the road surrounded by brown. If you're less than 38m get the trains. Keep facing the same way for this part. Go to the right and get the Merlions by the water, then forward to get the brown buildings by the river, then slide just left into the Gigantic Trees. If you aren't big enough to collect the Gigantic Trees get more stuff until you are. 39m 19. Go forward. The screen will blur as you go around the edge of the tall bridge getting more Gigantic Trees. Get all the Auto Factories and Gigantic Trees, then turn slightly left. CNR if you want, getting Oilfield stuff and hopefully the Indian Elephant. If he's too far away then ignore him. Swerve way right (while you're still CNRing); go across the river and get 3 more Oilfields. Go into the water. You should see New York in the distance. 45m50cm 20. Swerve a little to the right and CNR into New York right between the two big green buildings. Try to hit the big, tall building in the middle -- if you're really, really lucky you just might fly up and pick King Kong right off the top!!! :) 49m 21. Go right and get the Huge Bowling Pins and 2 small buildings. Go counterclockwise around King Kong's building, getting all the small buildings along the way. Once you are over 51m, aim right toward the Statue of Liberty and get the tall green building. Don't go into the water. [Or, if you're here for sightseeing, go into the water, take out the camera, and get a nice close-up of the French's gift to the USA, the Statue of Liberty.] 55m 22. Do a 180, move slightly right, and pick up all the large green buildings in front of you. Go right up against the cones and get the two large green buildings, then the Jennifer's Building to their left. Get as many buildings as you need to reach the Third Loading Screen. 23. Go through the cones, and slightly right to get the row of Presidents' mansions. Go to the left of the shopping mall and get another row of Presidents' mansions. Climb up and get the first Death Valley, then turn right and aim for Mt. Rushmore and get everything in your path. Get the Mt. Rushmore faces. 80m 24. Get the little patch of trees. Do a 180, without falling into the water. Go back to New York and get all the buildings except the 2 tallest ones. Get the Statue of Liberty! Do a 180 and get the 2 tallest buildings, then the four Gas Tanks. Go up the hill and get the Control Tower (you're not big enough to get the rest of the building). The screen might blur. 100m 25. Cross the Golden Gate Bridge. Get the hot air balloons and all the Tall Totem Poles except for the ones on the highest plateau. Head into the city. Pick up the city until you're 114m. 26. Go in the water. Pick up 2 small islands on the way to the monster knocking down buildings next to the desert. Get him and the buildings. Get the Rocks on the way to the two big Pyramids, and get the Pyramids. Turn slightly left toward the small Oil Tanks, go into the water, and into the next city. Roll through the city, then position yourself off shore in the water next to the boat and the whirlpool. 152m 27. CNR if you want. Go forward through the water until you reach the Great Wall of China. CNR again onto land if you want, or get the Great Wall if you want. Keep going forward. Get the city in front of you, then the 2 boats to your right. Climb up the hill and get the stadium, the arch and the Eiffel Tower. Go up another little hill and get the rainbow and boat above Niagara Falls. The screen might blur. 187m 28. Go down, get the Shopping Mall. Head along the beach, get the boats and islands, then make sure you're 200m or more. This next part is tricky. Slide up against the cliff in front of you to get the big Cloud. Go to the right and start going counterclockwise around the edge of the cliff, staying in the water. Ignore the high Cloud, but get the next one. Force your way up the rounded hill to get Machu Picchu, then get the two clouds beyond it. Get little islands on the way to the entrance to the desert. Fourth Loading Screen 29. Get random little pieces of desert until you're over 350m, then get the rest of the desert. Get it all; it's a lot easier to get bigger this way than in the next part. Relentlessly pick up desert until you're over 460m. 30. Get the boat to your right, and the dinosaurs on the next island in front of you. Head toward Mt. Fuji and get the Fried Rice Mountain along the way. Go counterclockwise around Mt. Fuji, then up Niagara Falls to get the two monsters. Get the Golden Gate Bridge. You just might hit 500m! If you're not to 490m yet scour the islands until you are. Then hit 500m and reach your goal! :) 31. Climb onto the island beyond the Golden Gate Bridge, and get pieces of land on that island until you're 520m. Then go where the desert was, and get the lining around the desert until you hit 600m, turning around in the process. Face the huge tornado; ravage the next island in front of you until you hit 720m. [If by chance you are playing As Fast As Possible 5 you won't be able to reach the sizes I list here because there is not as much land to pick up, but that's alright.] Go clockwise around the island ring across the next island until you reach 850m, then the next island until 930m. 32. Do a 180 and locate a huge volcano in the distance. Head toward it, and get all the little volcanoes around it. 33. Now you're over 1000m, it's time to see the world! Travel around, don't spend too long on any one island, and don't visit any one island too many times. You can get icebergs around 1500m, big chunks of land just over 2000m, the huge volcano and big clouds around 2600m, and - dun, du du DUM - somebody VERY BIG around 3000m! If you have time you can make it all the way to over 3600 meters tall. I have used this route to reach 500m in under seven minutes, and to build a katamari of over 3630m. ---------------- Campfire Stage [Campfirewt] Submitted by slo_bro The biggest challenge in the Campfire stages is just to always find the next thing to pick up fast enough to keep your fire going. Hopefully these three walkthroughs will give you routes where you always have another thing handy to pick up. These walkthroughs will only cover until you are big enough to pick up the woodpile to beat the stage, but if you get good at these routes you should have plenty of time left to ransack the level afterward and get HUGE. ---------- CAMPFIRE SMALL: Go forward off the fire pit, and around the corner of the next one. Start picking up the row of Fire Hazard Signs in front of you. Get the Roast on Bone, skip the yellow squash, get the green squash and another Roast on Bone. You'll see three green squash in the distance, get 'em and then three Roast on Bone, then two Footballs. Get the entire next row of objects in front of you. Now you're 67cm or bigger; you'll want to double back around. Circle to the left until you reach the other row of stuff; get it all. Then get 2 or 3 Footballs. If you're not 74cm yet roll around getting a little more stuff. Go straight forward through the Walkie-Talkies (CnR if you want) until you reach the boxes and Cabbages. Get the Cabbages, then turn right and aim (CnR if you want) for the left side of the picnic tables. Get the Pineapples next to the picnic tables, then circle around to the left and enter the building-like thing from the side where you can (and should) pick up two Kerosene Tanks. Get Cabbages inside the building, then exit and get the stack of Firewood to your left. You may well reach 1m. Get the little boxes in front of you. Now is a great time for a big CnR or two; go straight forward until you reach a woman, a Black Bear and a display stand. Get the Darumas on the ground, then go left and locate the row of Store Dustpans and get them. If you're not 1m20cm yet get some Old Newspapers. Now it's time for something a little dangerous. The Sunflowers along the edge of a cliff are great for a size increase, but while you get them stay VERY CLOSE to the edge of the cliff to avoid letting the person knock you into the water! If this is too dangerous for you then take the bridge instead. Now you're in an area with Mushrooms and plenty of Logs, get 'em and you'll reach 1m50cm, big enough to go to the top of the hill and light the fire! If you want to keep growing there are Mushrooms by a camper vehicle, bushes (be 2m to get the small ones and 2m60cm to get the big ones), the fence around the hill if you can reach 2m50cm, and a bridge made of logs that's great to pick up if you can reach 3m! With this route my best is a tiny bit over four meters. ---------- CAMPFIRE MEDIUM: Start with the circle of Roasts on Bone. Then go forward and slightly left and get fruits until you reach the mushrooms. Get a lot of them; they're great for your size. Don't bother with the ones on the logs. Do a 180, and locate three Monster Melons in a row. Get them, do another 180, and get the row of smaller melons and apples. Now's a good time for CnR(s). Go forward, through the Grapes, through the Maps, all the way to a whole bunch of small Mushrooms. Get a lot of them until you reach 78cm. Now turn around and locate the beach, and a stack of blue Buckets at the edge of the beach nearest you. Get the Buckets, then get the three next Buckets in front of you, don't go too near the water, and climb on the bridge. Get three more Buckets and whatever's to their right, but ignore the fishing poles hanging off the edge. Do a 180 while still on the bridge, then get the Buckets around the man. Now you can get the Coolers; get the three in front of you and then doanother 180. Finally, cross the bridge. Turn right and locate the line of Store Dustpans. Get them and then turn left and look for a woman, a Black Bear and a display stand. Get the Darumas and Watermelons until you are at least 1m20cm. Turn left, now it's time to get the Sunflowers at the edge of the cliff, but stay very near the edge so the person doesn't bump you into the water! If this is too dangerous for you then take the bridge. Get the stack of Logs to your left, then the Logs and Mushroom to your right. Head forward to the beach. This is a little risky; go under the umbrella to pick up at least a couple of chairs. Then climb up and start getting Picnic Baskets. Go down near the waterfall, and from there go up the hill getting three big Flat Mushrooms and then the last Picnic Basket, then the pink Binoculars atop the hill. Go forward then down the hill getting four Barrels, then head for the teepee far ahead and get the cone-shape bunches of Straw. You should be 2m. Far ahead of you you'll see a row of small green Bushes; get them. Turn left with the path and get all the big mushrooms by the camper vehicle. Get the two Barrels next to the bridge. Now turn way to your left, and locate port-a-potties and big bushes far in front of you; get the big bushes. Do a 180, and head for the far right edge of the big hill. Pick up the Wooden Fence - go all the way around the edge of the hill picking it up. In this process you should reach 3m, big enough to light the fire, which is right next to you! If you want to get bigger, a good next step is to locate the smaller of two bridges and pick up the logs it's made out of. Then go up the hill by the waterfall, getting all the Wooden Steps on the way up and all the good stuff at the top. The bushes all over the stage are good for growth, then once you're 4m30cm go back behind the waterfall (don't touch the water!) and get a row of trees. Then you're big enough to get the small tents. The biggest objects I know of to get in this stage are the big rocks next to the waterfall. But once you're that big the fire goes out quickly, so consider lighting the bonfire right away. One more note: whatever you do, don't go behind the waterfall when you're over 5m tall, it will likely put your fire out. With this route I've gotten 5m70cm. ---------- CAMPFIRE LARGE: Turn right and get these objects: 2 Big Kokeshis, 4 Roasts on Bone in a circle, 2 Flashlights, 4 more Roasts on Bone, Lantern, Flashlight, Lantern, 4 more Roasts on Bone, lots of Trumpets, 4 more Roasts on Bone, and two Kettles on the way to the edge of the hill. Go down and turn right, go past logs, and a rolling person will probably bump you. Keep going around the hill. Go a little farther from the hill to get three Monster Melons in a row, then the row of fruits beyond them. Climb on the bridge. Get the three Buckets to the right and the objects to their right; ignore the fishing poles hanging off the edge. Do a 180 and get the Buckets around the man. Get the Coolers in front of you and then do a 180. Cross the bridge, and turn a little right to look for the Store Dustpans in a row. Get them. Circle to the left and find the woman, the Black Bear and the display stand. Get the Darumas and Bear Carvings until you're over 1m20cm. Turn a little left and head for the Sunflowers on the cliff. Get them, but stay right to the very edge of the cliff so the person doesn't knock you into the water! If this is too dangerous for you then take the bridge. Get the stack of Logs to your left, then the Logs and Mushrooms to your right. Go forward near (but not on) the beach. Get the Picnic Baskets. Near the waterfall, go up the hill getting three Flat Mushrooms, then the last Picnic Basket, then the pink Binoculars from the top of the hill. You will come back to this hill (maybe twice!) when you're bigger. Go forward and then down the hill getting four Barrels. Locate the teepee ahead and get some cone-shaped bunches of Straw. Ahead of you there are small bushes to the left and big bushes to the right. Get the small bushes, then do a 180 and get the big bushes. Locate the bridge to the left of the hill; roll over the bridge to pick up all the logs it's made of. As if that wasn't dangerous enough, do a 180 and roll back across what's left of the bridge. Go up the hill getting Wooden Steps. DON'T get all the stuff on the hill yet! Save that for later, or else you may be too big and touch the waterfall when you try to go behind it very soon. Instead just get the bushes to your right, and roll straight down toward the waterfall. Go behind the waterfall, but be VERY CAREFUL to push to the left as you go, so you don't touch the water and put out the fire. Whatever you do, never go behind the waterfall if you are over 5 meters, or you'll have a soggy katamari. Get the line of trees just beyond the waterfall, then go straight ahead and start picking up tents. Very soon you will be 6m, big enough to climb the hill and light the fire! But if you want to get bigger, there's another bunch of tents beyond the camper vehicle, there's more stuff at the top of that hill next to the waterfall (and the rocks right by the waterfall), there's a Garbage Dump back behind all the tents, there's a building thingy with four big something-or-others to pick up, there's a teepee and port-a-potties; if you do it right there's enough stuff to reach over 8m! That's the best I've ever done, just over 8m, but two people say that they have rolled to over 9 meters tall in this stage?!? That's a hefty goal to shoot for, and one of my personal goals in this game. ---------------- CowBear Walkthrough [Cowbearwt] Submitted by shiro After too many attempts to count, I managed to finally roll up the Cowbear. I managed to do it without too much pain, unlike the previous levels; the only really hard part came at the end. First, make sure you start the level by the shopping carts. If you don't, restart the level (start, then circle) until you do. Now do a 180, and start picking up the carts. You'll eventually graduate to hay bales, air tanks, and safes. Eventually, you'll come to a trio of bear statues. At this point, veer off and mow your way through the crowd in the stands. Be careful about the cow pylons up at the top. Now continue on around, picking up all the trees and topiary and fences and whatever. Somewhere around this point you should hit 3m -- more, if you want to take a detour to scoop up the spiral shells along the inner stream. Anyway, next up are the stone lions that lead you into the second half of the crowd. Scoop 'em all up, being careful of the bear in the tree at the end. Now back up a little (grab the grass loops while you're there), and -- making sure you won't run into anything on your way through -- cross the road to the ship/carwash/game show/wrestling match area. If you're big enough to do so, scoop up the portable toilets that line the pitstop lane before going on to wreak havoc. Beware of the trio of calves by the carwash, and the wandering bear down by the wrestling ring. Continue scooping up stuff until you're above 4m50cm -- at this point, you can pick up the racing cars. Once you've grabbed the ones around the carwash -- don't bother chancing the ones that you see coming in and out of the carwash itself -- roll up the front of the ship, then up over the containers. Your goal is the roof of the carwash, where you'll find several more racing cars. At this point you should be between 4m62cm and 5m (or a smidge above). Here's where you get to have a little fun. Wait by the pitstop lane; soon, you'll see the Cowbear come by, flanked by two Kintaro-Bears. The former will continue on; the latter won't. What you want to do is ram into them, sending them flying. Then continue on your way. You'll hear the p'tewng of them leaving the level completely. Now -- again making sure it's safe to do so -- cross the road again, and head toward the mound to the left. There'll be an enormous tower of rocks there. If you're lucky, it'll be capped by a Hoshino. If you're not, there'll be a bear on top. At any rate, roll up as much of them as you can. Back across the street again. Roll up the lockers and concession stands (the ones by the carwash have Bear Men behind them, so be careful) and then roll off into the water. At this point, you'll want to make a lap of the island. You should be able to pick up sharks by now. If not, grab a few dolphins 'til you can. Continue on your way 'til you get to the pirate ship. Grab the boats and logs and such, then roll up the hill to do the same to the cannons and flying horses You should be pretty close to the right diameter (7m77cm7mm) by now. If not, grab a few more sharks. Once you're big enough, make your way back to the pitstop area -- the safest way back up is the gap between the gameshow stand and the prow of the ship. And now... you wait -- but not too long, though; you've only got about 2m left. Eventually, the Cowbear should come zooming by; since you bumped off his crew, he'll be all alone. Now here comes the final fun part: back up... and charge-ram him. He'll go flying, but so will you; grab him before he lands, and you're done! ---------------- Firefly Stage [Fireflywt] Here is a list of the "ranks" that you can get on this level: Very Dark(worst) Dark Dim Slightly Dim Slightly Bright Kinda Bright So-So Bright Bright Very Bright Dazzling(best) 1m81cm5mm will give you a Dazzling Rank. ---------------- Flower Stage, As Many as Possible [FlowerAMAPwt] Submitted by Auryn This level is quite difficult, and not very forgiving in terms of time - achieving all 1234 flowers is hard, even with this route. Some general recommendations: 1) If you're trying to get 100% flowers just to see some special message, forget it - there IS no special reward text from either the King or the fan for getting 100% - you get the same message and planet names as for the super clear. The only reward seems to be personal satisfaction. 2) dont dash to clear the flowerbeds. I know it is tempting, but if you're going for 100% then you need to make SURE you get every single flower from each bed , and dashing tends to miss a few resulting in costly turnaround delays. 3) Beginning your rolling while the King is talking buys you about two seconds - but if you get disoriented by him talking while you roll, then it may not be worth it. 4) Best way to clear the small, round rosebushes is to roll the katamari so that the entire bush is inside the katamari. This is easier to do with a larger katamari (i.e. if it has grown at least once - hence why I leave them for later in this guide), and harder to do if your katamari is lopsided (having picked up a rabbit bush/calf/deer/gnome/ichigo) It tends to miss buds lower to the ground and on the opposite side, so make sure to check that you got them; oftentimes having to go back is lethal in terms of time. 5) The only wandering creatures you need to care about are the guy with a flower bowl on his head, the calf coated in flowers, and the duck with a rose in its beak. The rest can be safely ignored, but the additional size they bring is always helpful. To begin: Start out at the position where there is a purple flower bed to your left and a swirling bush to your right, NOT near ichigo or in the middle of the bushes. Clear the flowerbed to your left, then continue forward to the bed ahead of it (downhill) and repeat. At this point, move forward past the flower-coated calf and collect the thin line of colored roses in the grass at the base of that hill, then switch directions. You should be facing a ring of flowers about a stump with a gnome on it, and some animals to one side. Steer yourself towards the animals and snag the rabbits as you circle the stump to get all the flowers - including the clumps of dandelions in front that look like yellow dots. THEY ARE NOT JUST SCENERY! GET THEM! Checkpoint for flower count: 216 flowers. This is after the last dandelions have been collected. Note that if you're unlucky enough to have the calf bump you, you might pick up an extra flower in the process. Also, you arent going after the bushes yet - save them for when your katamari is bigger. Following that, enter the yellow flower bed uphill to your left and clear it. Sometime around now, a guy with a bowl of roses on his head should be making his way up the hill toward you. Roll him up before he runs away, or you'll have to spend precious time chasing him later. Once you have him, finish the purple flowerbeds on both sides of the arched passage, then roll down through the middle of it to collect the big yellow flowers hanging there. If you cant collect them yet, then you've probably missed something - but you can return here later instead of restarting completely. Now you need to start on the bushes - go down the hill in a u-path (NOT into the center yet), collecting all the roses off of the bushes on the outer ring - the ones that have red flowers on top of them in addition to the smaller buds. As you ring around towards where you started, you should see that rose-budded calf - get it, so you dont have to chase it later. Once you've gotten all of those outer bushes, go into the center and start clearing there. I strongly advise saving the rabbit bushes till last, as you tend to pick up the whole bush at this point and a lopsided katamari will tend to miss more roses on the small, round bushes. Finish with the rabbits and the lone giant yellow flower underneath the arch. From here you head to the upper-right and collect the single large yellow blossom on the side of a deer bush, then head up to the ring of flowerbeds and bushes around the tree where ichigo is riding a deer. Though it is tempting to roll in a wide ring around the separate beds, DONT! You will find yourself breaking the arc and having to waste a lot of time retracing for a single flower or two. Do one bed at a time, one bush at a time. Checkpoint for flower count: 779 flowers. This is for the entire upper area of the level, including the flowers on the guy walking around and the be-flower'd calf. If your timing saw the duck wandering around, then you might have snagged it already for a total of 780... but that's not likely to happen. The bottom section of the level is essentially a semicircle around a lake at the center. I recommend entering the semicircle from the right side and proceeding counterclockwise to collect everything in that ring before heading downward, but it's personal preference. Either way, choose your direction and dash hard down the hill to that side of the level. For the most part, the 'outer edge' of the level alternates between flower beds and stands of dandelions, but there are some patches of flowers on the inner edge as well, in addition to some puffball-like flowers on the ground in the middle, near the base of trees. Keep an eye out for a duck walking around with a single flower in its beak - you need that. Sometime while you're rolling in this section, you'll probably start to get the 1 minute warning - this is normal. I told you this level was harsh in terms of time! Checkpoint for flower count: 1143 flowers. This is for everything on 'ground level', before you drop down into the depression that has the lake. Common ones to miss are some of the thinner blossoms in the 'tall grasses' on the inner ring, as well as the duck and sunflowers hidden inside their leafy stands. Turn to drop yourself into the lake-area. Around the sides are a few clumps of odd-looking flowers in bushes (including the pitcher plants in some stands of reeds in the wall), and wandering/walking 'happy flowers' that look like pirhana plants. Roll those up, then head into the lake itself. Several small blossoms are in patches of tall grass at the lake's edge, and there is a huge blossom on the center island and a large one on top of the figure rising out of the water (they labeled that figure 'God'... despite the obvious 'lady of the lake' reference). The final few blossoms are small, white buds found individually in the water around the broad green lillypads - two to each side or so. It'll probably take you a few tries to get comfortable before you can manage 100%, even with the route given to you - as I have said (repeatedly), it's a hard level. I typically have less than half a minute left when I collect the last flower; even more typically I'm in the last 15 seconds or so. So when you finally get all 1234 flowers, give yourself a pat on the back - you've earned it, walkthrough or not! ---------------- Race Track, As Fast as Possible [RaceTrackAFAPwt] Submitted by Slo_bro Race Track As Fast As Possible's Super-Clear time is one minute, but if you know where to go you can finish in well under forty seconds, maybe even under thirty. Start by picking the jockey off the first horse. Then get the man and the line of stuff from the left side of the track. Get one more jockey off a horse. Now, during the curve, squeeze yourself between two bikes to reach the right side of the track. Just after passing through the tire-shaped thing, get the two men on the right side of the track, so you'll be big enough to get the whole stack of Winner's Podiums. That'll increase your size big time! Up ahead use the river as a shortcut. After returning to the track, hopefully you'll get a driver or two as you need the size. When you see barrels along the right side of the track, get them and then leave the track - pick up a pile of barrels, then a row of ducts, then all six Flower Beds. If you are not big enough for the ducts or the flower beds start the stage over. Now return to the track and go the direction opposite the other drivers. Stay in the middle of the track and pick up as many horses as possible. When you reach the Pumpkin Carriage steer to the right of it to avoid it, or if you'd rather you can bump it for its horses and hope for a favorable bounce. When you see a stack of three big rocks to the left of the track get them - this will take you to or very near your goal of 5m! ---------------- Saturn S, M, and L [SaturnSMLwt] Submitted by Slo_bro Saturn Walkthrough One way to achieve the exact size in the Saturn stages is to choose a target item, an object whose pickup diameter is close to the stage's goal. Check whether you can pick up the target item, then roll up a little more stuff, then check again, then roll up some other small item, check again ... continue until you can pick up the target item. Then you know you are very close to the goal size. My best way to achieve the exact sizes in all three Saturn stages is to use a target item. Saturn Small: Your target item is the pencil stand on the floor, a green cylinder that kind of looks like a coffee mug. Roll until you're fairly large, but make sure you don't get any of the six round toy capsules under a chair (next to the pencil stand). Once you think you're fairly close to 20cm try to pick up thepencil stand. Hopefully you can't yet, because then you can pick up some little thing, then check the pencil stand again ... do this repeatedly until you can pick up the pencil stand. Then go under the chair and pick up all six toy capsules. When I use this method I always end up with either 20cm or 20cm1mm. My success rate: 70%. Saturn Medium: Your target item is the rooms' doors. This one is not quite so precise. Roll till you're over a meter, then once you can pick up children head to the little kids' classroom. Keep picking up children and sunflowers until you can pick up desks. Then check whether you can pick up the doors. Hopefully you can't; pick up two desks at a time and keep checking the doors until you can pick them up. Then roll down the hallway, picking up as little as you can, and grab the doors from four more doorways(for a total of five). If in the process you pick up about 3-5 people by accident, then you just might be exactly 2m tall. My success rate: 30%. Saturn Large: Your target item is the Gigantic Tree, the ordinary-looking large round tree that's all over the level. Locate a big wide hill that has a dinosaur and about 40 of these trees on it. Then roll until you're fairly big (don't pick up anything from off the hill yet), and check if you can pick up a Gigantic Tree. Hopefully you can't; start picking up little bits of stuff and coming back to the hill to see if you can pick up the Gigantic Tree. Once you can pick up the tree, roll up all the rest of the trees on the hill, as well as everything else on the hill. Hot air balloons, windmills, make sure you pick up everything on the hill except for the dinosaur. You still won't quite be 50m, so jump down into the farmland below and pick up maybe six things (small buildings etc.) from the farmland. Hopefully you're exactly 50m. My success rate: 40%. ---------------- Save the Panda's Stage [Pandaswt] Submitted by Aaron For those looking for a high money score on the panda level, here's a panda stage money value list. If you've already done that then you don't need this guide, but you can sure use it to compare your route to mine if you want to. As you know all three Sumo stages are very similar. But they start you in different places, and they have a few slight differences in food placements. So I will start by providing separate walkthroughs for the beginnings of each of the three Sumo stages. In all three I will take advantage of (maybe abuse?) a room at the top of the hill with tons of food, that's great to use near the beginning no matter which Sumo level you're playing. Then I will finish it off with one walkthrough for the latter part of all three Sumo stages. Hope that isn't confusing ... here I go! ---------- SUMO vs. KOMUSUBI (SMALL) Start right in that room I mentioned, with a fence far to your right and a circle of Pork Bowls in the distance, and food just to each side of you. Grab the noodles to your right, then the noodles to your left, then get the green Squash in the ground in front of you. Farther forward, go in a circle getting all six Pork Bowls while avoiding the Cafeteria Helper (kid), doing a 180 in the process. Get other Squash and Noodles until you're 65kg. Leave the room and turn right. Eat some food as you cross the bridge (CnR if you want). Get the nearest row of Turnips from the farmer's field, then do a 180 and get the next row. Do more 180s and clear out both rows of watermelons. Get a couple Bamboos Shoots from by the tree if you're not 104kg yet, get all 4 if you need them. Then get the Chinese Cabbages (3 big veggies stacked up). Your target here is to reach 109kg so you can get the four Pickle Tubs on the way down the hill. Get them, then turn hard left off the side of the hill and locate three more Pickle Tubs by a building. Get them and take a right turn around the corner of the building. Go to the section marked ALL 3 STAGES. ---------- SUMO vs. OZEKI (MEDIUM) Start in the green grassy place, with a log with a mushroom right by you. Turn left and follow the path (CnR if you want) getting three Roasts on Bone. Jump down, then on the street turn right and go counterclockwise around the building, picking up anything that looks tasty. When you reach the door that opens to your right, head in and get all five Noodle items on stones. Turn right, get both the green and the yellow squash, then all six Pork Bowls in front of you, doing a 180 in the process. The Cafeteria Helper (kid) might give you trouble. Pick up food in front of you until you're 72kg, then leave the room. Turn right and eat as you cross the bridge (CnR if you want). Get the four Bamboo Shoots to your left, then head to the vegetable field nearby. Get a row of monster melons, then keep doing 180s as you clear out the rest of the four rows. Hopefully you're 105kg or more; get the Chinese Cabbages by the tree and then the Pickle Tubs on the way down the hill. Turn hard left, climb off the hill and locate three Pickle Tubs by a building. Get them and take a right turn around the corner of the building. Go to the section marked ALL 3 STAGES. ---------- SUMO vs. YOKOZUNA (LARGE) You'll need to bone up a little more at the beginning of this one, because the items in the vegetable field require you to be larger. Start next to a fire, with people all around you. Go forward and get the Ramen, turn left and go down the path (CnR if you want). Go over the edge, past the kids, and get the Roasts on Bone on the way to the street. Keep going forward past the building, then slightly right to enter the room. Get all the Noodles in a row, then the two Squash to your right, then all size Pork Bowls, doing a 180 in the process. Watch out for the kid. Get the rest of the food till you're 70kg. Leave the room and turn left. Collect food around the building until you've reached 74kg, so you can get the Cabbages. Continue around the building, getting Cabbages until you reach the bridge. You should be 85kg or so. Cross the bridge, get one row of Strawberry Parfaits, then do a 180 and get the other row. Go around the tree getting Bamboo Shoots and the Chinese Cabbages. If you're not 100kg yet get some more food, just don't go down the hill. Get both rows of Big Peaches (and Momotaro). Do a 180 and go straight off the hill (CnR if you want) and cross the road; no need to get the Pickle Tubs in this stage. Go to the next section. ---------- ALL 3 STAGES: You're by a building with a blue roof, looking down a road, and if you got him in Campfire already then you can see Kinoko the mushroom cousin. This next part can be very frustrating, because of things bumping you way off course. Go forward, get the Fried Rice, Rice Bales and blue mushroom. Turn right and circle around the vehicle to your right, getting Rice Bales, mushrooms and Pickle Tubs. Get the two Gigantic Rice Bowls by the building. Go around the corner of the building and get the Gigantic Rice Bowl with a fish on it. Now, depending on what stage you're playing your strategy will be different. If you are in Sumo Medium or Sumo Large you'll be about 180kg and you can go up the hill and get the big row of Gigantic Dangos (kebabs). If in Sumo Small, you're only about 140kg and there are no Dangos on the hill, so (ONLY in Sumo Small) CnR around the roads getting bigger food items like those big Cooking Pots filled with food, and go up the hill toward the vegetable field once you're 175kg or so. Now for all 3 stages again: Stay on the hill and go left, get the stacked Bales of Rice. Now your quest for a while will be for Vegetable Cartons (cardboard boxes); I hope the Sumo likes to eat his veggies. Staying atop the hill, staying along the "wall" get all the Vegetable Cartons in front of you. Cross the bridge, turn right and get more Vegetable Cartons. Go down and cross the train tracks, by the little stairs you will find ... 2 more Vegetable Cartons, then 3 more by the building. Enough vegetables ... Go down the road to get the 3 Big Creme Caramels by the copy machines, cross the road to get the Ice Cream Freezer by a small yellow-roofed building, then go right around the building to another Ice Cream Freezer and a Vending Machine which you may or may not be big enough to get. Go around the white building and get 3 Deluxe Fridges. From there go straight down the road, getting the Fruit Cartons and then the huge row of Vending Machines. Get 'em all. Turn left then right and get the boxes by a red-roofed building, then turn left and get the overturned Vending Machines. Now, for the first time we enter the Schoolyard where your opponent is. From here on out, if you get down to 30 seconds left, you should probably bail out and beat your opponent right away (you can already roll him up! :) ) But if you have time left, be careful not to bump into him; you've still got lots of growing to do! Turn left and begin a clockwise attack of the schoolyard, getting Ice Cream Freezers, then a Gigantic Pumpkin (round and green), Vending Machines, more green Pumpkins, more Vending Machines and another Pumpkin. If you run into the Rubber People, take their food. Get the Gigantic Riceballs by the pool, then go left and get Ice Cream Freezers, then go around the pool getting Big Watermelons and the stacks of Rice Bales. Get the other Ice Cream Freezers. After getting a couple more Pumpkins and Ice Cream Freezers, it's time to climb up and get the stage's coolest item - the Wedding Cake(s) (1 in Small, 2 in Medium, 3 stacked up in Large). Then climb over (or grab) the racecar and get the Pizza Delivery Bike (which counts as food!), then get another green Bike a little ways to your right. Now, if you have lots of time left you can CnR around the streets a little for fun if you want to. If you can catch the house-shaped thingy roaming the streets, it's a nice big pick-up that counts as food. Now reenter the schoolyard, and you can get the food stands!! Doing so will make you HUGE. Get the green food stand, then the four by the pool, then the yellow, then (CnR if you want) the red. Leave the schoolyard, turn right and you'll find a big Food Wagon truck which will raise you another 10kg! Now if you see a train in front of you you've timed this perfectly. The timing requires you to have over a minute left at this point. Wait (and get food) until the train passes, then cross the tracks and get the Pizza Delivery Bikes up the hill. Now, if you have it timed perfectly there will be a house-shaped thingy rolling down the train tracks. Get it - it's big and it counts as food. Now you may well be over 580kg. CnR around getting everything you can, but don't forget to return to the schoolyard to roll up your opponent. This is my favorite stage. It's fun to roll to around 590kg, and make your Sumo Wrestler so HUGE that he really looks like he'd be a whale of a lot heavier even than six hundred kilograms. When you're this big even the Yokozuna looks tiny compared to you. For some reason I get the biggest by a couple kg in Sumo Medium - see if you can reach 580-590kg or more!!! :) -------------------- Underwater AFAP [UnderwaterAFAPwt] ~ submitted by The Prince's Bride First, start out in front of the tiger mat where those penguins are at. I like to align myself to the left of the head so that I can roll up several of those turtle eggs, paper tigers and lollipops. Second, head straight toward that path of small objects and turtle eggs right in front of you (collect a couple of those turtle eggs first if need be--you need to have at least 27cm 8mm or so before you can roll up the roses) and turn right and CNR along that path of roses. As I said before, the roses are good additions to your size. Sometimes, a path of large fish may get in your way so watch out! Third, keep heading straight. You should see a stack of large crabs there. Head into the patch of seagrass, do not charge here because it can cause you to fly through the water too far and lose precious time. Try to have good enough momentum when you roll off the hill though (use the water physics to your advantage :D), if you're lucky, you can snag a school of green clownfish. Right after that, head into the other patch of seagrass further up to the left, snagging the turtle eggs and the school of angelfish. You should have definately sized up by now, if you were lucky, you sized up at the school of clownfish. Fourth, roll around in the same area, being sure to roll up plenty of those fiddler crabs, some carp, (turtles are great too if you're large enough, a couple of cm over the size up) and those snorkels and googles at the far end of the strip. CNR whenever you can, if the path is clear of those large crabs. The snorkels are also really good at boosting your size. You can head down even farther and get those paint cans and brushes. It's a pretty good strecth here, I think it's safe to CNR along here for the most part. Fifth, at this point, you should be pretty close to acheiving the goal, about 7cm 7mm left. Now, head straight past where you rolled up those paint cans. You should come upon an area with a bunch of bottles of india ink. Roll up those three stacked squids to the left. After that, go directly to the right and roll up that octopus on top of the pots. If you still hadn't hit the goal (which was the case with me), and only have about 1cm left or so to go, just CNR off those pots and you should float through the water and hit a school of fish to hit that goal. -------------------- 1 million roses [OneMillionRoseswt] a how to rubberband them ~ submitted via e-mail by Istanbul. How to get 1,000,000 roses without breaking your fingers: Because the highest increment of roses you can get is 10 at a shot...and your Katamari never grows, no matter how many roses you give it, and you can't roll up anything else...rolling up a million roses can prove to be a finger-bruising experience. But with my trick, you don't have to do any of the work...let the game do it for you! You'll need two rubber bands, not too small, not too big. Keep entering the rose stage until you get the Ice stage. I choose this one because it's the smallest one with the least obstacles, and has the highest rose-to-square-foot ratio. Using your rubber bands, pull the analog sticks upwards...but make sure that one of them - left or right, doesn't matter - is off-center. DO NOT simply leave them both going straight up, or you'll eventually run into a wall and just sit there. Once that's done, turn the TV off, or change the channel, or go surf GameFAQs, or whatever...when you return, you'll discover that the game has been collecting roses FOR you! It's not as fast as doing it yourself, nor as accurate, and I do recommend turning off vibration before you start...but I just got about 13,000 roses in the past hour without even touching the controller. Using this trick, you should have your katamari made in a matter of days, rather than a matter of months! addition to roses: "Using your rubber bands, pull the analog sticks upwards...but make sure that one of them - left or right, doesn't matter - is off-center" The thing is, it does matter. Nearly all traffic in the ice rink - except the penguins - travels in a clockwise direction. Rolling counterclockwise against traffic increases your chances of being bumped into a new path with more roses. Rolling clockwise often leaves you going around and around in the same empty circle. Took me a while to figure that out, but it definitely improved my numbers. ~ submitted via e-mail If you choose not to use rubberbanding...submitted by slo_bro The fastest way to roll up the roses is to pause the game and then restart every time you collect a certain amount of them like maybe a thousand, because all the roses you already collected will respawn, and the number you have collected will not be lost. I timed myself on each of the three levels, seeing how many I get in an hour, hopefully this will help somebody get them faster. I know that some people will find different routes around the levels than I did. And I know that some people are faster than me at this, but these are my speed: - Town level: 35000 roses in an hour Taking a route around the level that gets most of the rose bunches. Getting 1600 or so then pausing and resetting. A little different each time because the game starts you in different places. Not fast but more variety than in my other methods. - Racetrack level: 64000 roses in an hour Turn slightly right and circle once around the mansion. Then go down the hill, down the path until you hit the biggest patch of rose bunches, then pause and reset. 500 roses per reset. 10000 roses every a little over 9 minutes. VARIATIONS: Don't go around the building first, just go down the hill to the biggest patch of rose bunches. 10000 roses in 8:15. Faster, but I don't do it this way because to me this is even more boring. Or, go around the building, then down the hill, then keep rolling along, getting the roses on the truck etc., until you have 1,000, then pause and reset. 10000 roses in 9:45. Slower but more variety. - Ice Level: 65000 roses in an hour Take two laps around the raised snowy inside part to get all the bunches. Then jump down onto the ice, and CNR again and again and again avoiding people and getting roses, until you have 1500, then pause and reset. This is GREAT CNR practice!!! But it does get tiring for the hand because of all the CNRs. 10000 roses every a little over 9 minutes. VARIATION: Skip the middle part, just CNR into the ice and get 700-800 per run, 10000 roses in just under 8 minutes. This is the fastest method I know. But I don't use it because it is so hard on your hand, head, etc. to CNR and CNR without breaks. I prefer to roll around the middle part first each time. - So for me the Ice is the fastest stage, just by a little bit. But I played all three stages about equally. One more suggestion: when you are talking to the rose to enter the level, use the right stick to choose "random" for your music. That means that every time you pause and restart the level, you will come back to the stage with different music. That's just something that could make the stage a little more interesting. -------------------- [CatchTheCousinswt] =============================================== | Roll-Up-The-Cousins "Tag" Level Walkthrough | | Written By: Auryn | =============================================== Okay! You've FINALLY gotten all the cousins and second cousins (some of whom are really messed up - talk about the dangers of inbreeding), and now you get to roll them ALL up at once! As satisfying as that might sound, it's actually VERY frustrating... many of the cousins are on wandering and/or semi-random routes that make you waste precious time tracking them down. -------------------- | Cousin Locations | -------------------- There are 40 cousins total. Whichever one you play as simply doesnt appear, as you try to get the other 39. --------------- ==Upper Level== --------------- (Translating Location Directions:) I term the 'top/upper area' of the level as the pink-grassed area above the circular path around the lake, and give left-right side directions facing upward away from the lake and towards the wrestling ring. Huey, Marcy, Twinkle - the three of them are grouped against the wall on the upper-left portion of the level. Notes: They don't move, so they're always in the same place - BUT, twinkle requires a little more size to roll up, so dont start with him. Daisy & Ichigo - these two are standing still in front of a strawberry-spotted cow at the top of the level. Notes: They dont move, and can be rolled up at any size. Easy pickings, especially for a dash. L'amour & Honey - these two are walking in a slow ring around the big tree at the top of the level. Notes: Honey's a little bigger so you may have to knock her over first. If you're lucky, they may be right next to Daisy and Ichigo when you come by. Macho & Opeo - Opeo is riding a boar and Macho is trying to stop it... and failing. They make a slow clockwise circuit of the upper half of the level, from up around the tree to down below the wrestling ring where the path around the lake starts. Notes: This pair is exceedingly annoying. Macho you can get pretty easily, but getting Opeo off of the boar's back can be difficult. Even if you're larger the boar can knock you around, making you waste time reorienting yourself. Best tactic is to roll onto the boar from the side, as opposed to the front or back, and get just high enough that you snag the bandaged cousin. Also, since they go in a slow ring, its easy to miss them by mistake and leave yourself wondering what cousins you left behind. Shy: walking alone on the upper-right side of the level, near the wall at about the middle just past the wrestling ring. Notes: Not a very big wandering radius, and can be rolled up at any size. Easy pickings unless you scare her first and get her running. Velvet & Peso - These two are flying about the upper-right side of the level in a random pattern that takes them from the side of the wrestling ring down to the lakeside path. Notes: Another annoying pair, these two can aggrivate you with the fact that their flight can carry them OVER you when you try to roll them up. It's best to try and catch them further up in their flight path (by the ring) where the ground is higher. Colombo - riding a small bear around the bottom of the upper section of the level, where it intersects the lakeside path. Notes: Like Opeo's boar, the bear can knock you around if you're not careful. But since it's smaller, it's easier to roll over it and pick Colombo off. Again, best to go from the side if you can. Lalala- lying on a bench on the lakeside path at the bottom of the upper section of the level, overlooking the lake. Notes: since she's stationary until you scare her, she's easy to get - but if you're not careful, you'll end up rolling over her and down into the lake, possibly before youre ready. It's almost worth it to let her start running around as you roll up Colombo, so that you can pick her up on more stable ground. Signolo - standing on a tree stump at the bottom-left of the upper section of the level. Easy to see. Notes: Again, stationary - but that stump can be a problem to roll up, giving him time to run away from you. One tactic is to scare him, and watch him (slowly) move down the side of the stump before trying to get away. Or, just scare him and pick him up later on normal ground. Can-Can & Nickel - These two are standing on either side of a VERY flower-packed bush on the left side of the upper part of the level. Notes: Motionless until you scare them. Easy. Foomin - wandering around the upper-left portion of the level, much the same as Shy on the right side. Notes: Same as for Shy; Not a very big wandering radius, and can be rolled up at any size. Easy pickings unless you scare him first and get him running. Miso - Standing around with a deer just below the wrestling ring in the upper portion of the level. Notes: the deer standing with miso is one of the few objects you can roll up in the level to help your size. Miso himself is easy to get, as he stands still until you scare him. Lucha, Kuro & Drooby - these three are in the wrestling ring at the center of the upper part of the level. It looks like Lucha & Kuro are trying to take on the larger Drooby. Notes: When the three of them start running about inside the ring, it can be VERY annoying trying to pick them up without falling out of the ring and having to climb back in again. Drooby you'll have to knock over first (and need some size to do it), and she takes FOREVER to stop spinning around and land if you knock her out of the ring. ----------------- ==Lakeside Path== ----------------- (Translating location directions) I give directions for the lakeside path at the 'middle/lower' part of the level facing from the wrestling ring towards the lake; hence the path out of the lake is at 6 o'clock, and the path leaves the upper part of the level at about 5 & 7 o'clock. Nutsuo - standing next to a tree at about 5 o'clock, right where the path leaves the upper part of the level on the right side (facing the lake) Notes: Requires some size to knock over, and can be annoying when he escapes through the gap between the tree and the wall. Try to scare him into the open grass area next to the path. Jungle - wandering around about 2 to 4 o'clock, just past Nutsuo. Notes: Sometimes hard to spot, since his colors actually change chameleon-like as he wanders around. Easiest to see when crossing the path. If you can spy him from a distance, you can save some time and cover more ground by picking him up with a dash. Ace & Dipp - They're dancing around a tree at about 3 o'clock. Notes: Ugh... THESE two! They're SO annoying that they get their own section! See below. Odeko - Standing semi-hidden in a bunch of tall grass at 12 o'clock - the opposite end of the lakeside path. Notes: Big. Requires some size to pick up - one of the last you get, if not THE last. Can make your katamari REALLY lopsided. Havana - wandering in a slow clockwise circle around the lakeside path. Seems to have a chicken on his head. Notes: Easy to pick up, but the slow circular path means that you can miss seeing him for the entire level... until you find out you need him. Beyond - also wandering in a slow circle around the lakeside path. Notes: Same as Havana, but bigger; you'll need some considerable size to pick him (it?) up. Worth noting is that even if you scare him, he'll turn around after a little and continue walking clockwise. So if you're going counter-clockwise around the path, he'll keep coming for you unless you let him slip by. Fujio, Slip, & The Prince - wandering around the lakeside path between 8 and 9 o'clock. Notes: Easy to get. Slip can be a little hard to see. Fujio runs like crazy if you scare him, and can run rings around you in this small path space. Johnson - his head is stuck in a tree around 8 o'clock in the lakeside path. Notes: Stays still, cant run. Extremely easy to get. Miki - wanders around the lakeside path around 7 o'clock. Tends to stay on the inner ring of the path, and occasionally wanders down the green slope leading into the lake. Notes: You can often miss her when she walks down towards the lake, so the best way to make sure you get her is to roll up towards her when you leave the lake area itself. ------------ ==The Lake== ------------ (Translating Location Directions) All directions are given facing into the lake from the path that leads down into it. Marny - walking around the lake in the secton nearest the path out of the lake area. Notes: Not much to say, but he has a decently large area to run in. Easy to pick up. He'll often be scared by you if you spawn near him, before you do anything. Shikeo - standing still on the left side of the lake area (facing away from the path out) Notes: Again, easy unless you make him run. Odeon - wandering in a slow-ish ring around the lake area itself, not the lakeside path. Notes: Requires a little size to pick up without knocking over, but you can always knock him over. June - Flying in a circle around the lake itself - well, supported by an umbrella. Notes: Like Peso & Velvet, can be annoying in that she can fly OVER you. Easier to let her come to you, than chasing her. Kinoko - Pretending to be a mushroom (the big brown one on its side) in the lake area Notes: doesnt run, but doesnt look like a cousin either. You just have to remember that one of them is a mushroom-head, or you'll forget and wander around aimlessly searching for the cousin you missed. Nik - sitting in the cave in the lake area, opposite the path leading in. Notes: He doesnt even move. Pick him up at any size. ------------------------------------------------ | Ace & Dipp - Dirty, Rotten Scoundrels of WLK | | (Or at least the cousin level) | ------------------------------------------------ Without a doubt, Ace & Dipp are the MOST annoying and evil cousins to pick up in the entire level. When you get close, they'll turn about the tree so that they're facing you... and as you approach, they'll KEEP turning around the tree, dodging you. I've heard a lot of different theories on picking them up, and indeed they factor rather strongly into some different interpretations of my walkthrough. Some pointers for them: a) First off, you can reduce your headache by half by playing as either Ace or Dipp themselves. One vanishes, and you pick up the Prince instead(assuming you were playing as him). MUCH easier! b) In order to pick them up, you MUST use a charge & roll. I have yet to really be able to get them without it; they move too quickly for normal, sideways and backward rolling. Dont aim at them; aim for the space between them and the tree they bounce around, and do so from a little distance back. Your goal is to be moving fast enough close to the trunk of the tree that their circling around doesnt help. If you're too close, they'll already have started turning around the tree and that will make it harder to get them. Collecting them often seems to be accompanied by slightly bouncing off the trunk of the tree, especially at small sizes. c) It is somewhat easier to pick them up when you're larger, but not too much so. They move pretty fast around the tree, but the size can help - particularly if youve got a cousin sticking out to the side to snag them. Meaning, leaving them to the end (when youre bigger) is a good idea...unless... d) ... you save time by getting ONE of them at the beginning. One of the starting points is next to them. You can save considerable time by setting yourself up and charge-grabbing ONE of them at the very start of the level, before the timer even begins counting up. It /can/ be done! Dont try for the other until you come back by later, and by then you should have enough size to make it a little easier. e) If you're REALLY devious, you can put a) and d) together; play as Ace or Dipp, start from the spawn point next to the tree, and pick up the other one before the timer even starts. Congratulations; Ace & Dipp are no longer a problem! Of course, if for some reason you want to beat every level as The Prince, you can use these other tips to pick them up normally. --------------------------------------- | Walkthrough (My best time: 1:59:15) | --------------------------------------- --------- ==Setup== --------- a) You probably want to be playing as Dipp, unless you REALLY want to have 'fun' messing with getting BOTY Dipp & Ace - see above. b) You want to start out next to where Dipp & Ace dance. c) You need to bear in mind that there is a LOT left up to luck and chance in this level. Tiny, random mistakes will cost time, chaotic movements of random-path cousins will frustrate you, scared cousins will run randomly... etc. Conversely, you MIGHT get lucky with cousins coming together into clumps, getting things on your first try, etc. Accept that luck is a factor here before moving on. ------------------------------------------------ ==Start - Ace, Lake Area and a few on the path== ------------------------------------------------ Those being done, while the king is talking roll yourself to the right and position yourself so that you're aiming at Ace dancing on the left side of the tree. Your back should be to the wall. Take careful aim at the space between Ace & the tree, then charge and dash at him. Done right, you should clip the tree and bounce off with Ace, and the king will begin his 'How many times have I been ignored' speech. If you miss, then retry. Dont worry, you CAN get it! The dash should carry you down into the lake area; if not, roll down. Your first target is June, flying around on an umbrella. If you didnt take too long setting up to get Ace, she should be just circling around towards you, and you can pick her up very quickly by positioning yourself so she runs into you. If you miss her this first time around, dont worry; continue across the lake to pick up the yellow Marny and the Orange Shikeo, and then position yourself so that June flies into you. Knock over Odeko and keep moving forward if he falls behind you; you'll double back for him in a minute. Get Nik and the mushroom Kinoko in any order, then reverse directions quickly and pick up the fallen Odeko if you havent already. Best case is if you can dash to pick him up. once you have him, dash towards the ramp leading up out of the lake. Note that you cant dash UP the ramp, so slow down when you get there or you'll be bounced back. Roll up and to the right on the green slope to the right of the path; you're looking for Miki, a yellow 3-point head. Most of the time, she's ahead of you, and you can pick her up. You'll probably see Beyond on the path in front of you, but you're too small to get him yet. Instead, continue down the lakeside path to pick up Johnson (stuck in a tree), The Prince, Slip and Fujiko. If you can dash to get them, great. Once you have those three, you want to reverse directions quickly and dash hard (multi-dash if needed) back to the upper part of the level. --Checkpoint-- Cousins Remaining: 27 Cousins Collected: 12 --------------- ==Upper Level== --------------- Depending on your speed, you may or may not see the boar with Odeo and Macho in front of you when you get back to the upper part of the level. If you see them, get them; remember its easier to roll in from the side. Ditto for Colombo (black body) riding on his bear - you want to get these wandering cousins quickly. Following this, go pick up Lalala off of her bench (she might be running if you scared her earlier, then go either scare signolo (flashy head) off of his stump and grab him, or roll up its side and get him as he tries to escape. Dash uphill through Can-Can and Nickel (green/purple body and grey body - theyre standing still), and then reorient yourself and dash again to pick up foomin (blue head) further uphill. As you get to the top of the hill, curve yourself to the right so you can pick up Huey, Marcy & Twinkle against the wall, then turn and face the strawberry cow. You'll see Daisy & Ichigo there - and if youre lucky, L'amour and Honey too. Dash over and collect them. If Honey and L'amour werent with the other two, then circle back around the tree and snag them. When you have them, drop down to the center and climb up into the wrestling ring behind Dooby (the big purple drill-thing) and knock her over. While she's in the air, Lucha and Kuro should be standing still in surprise before running; pick them up quickly before they can start running and your job will be MUCH easier. Roll them up without dropping out of the ring, and it'll be even MORE easier. If Dooby dropped outside of the ring, follow her and pick her up. If not, or once you have her, circle around to the front of the wrestling ring and pick up Miso, sitting there with the deer. Now you have to go and chase down Peso and Velvet, flying up and down the right side of the upper part of the level... but since you're bigger, you should have an easier time of it. During this, pick up Shy (blue body, sunken face) where she's wandering around on the right side. When you have them all, you'll want to dash down the level towards the right entrance to the lakeside path (what I call 5 o'clock above). --Checkpoint-- Cousins Remaining: 5 Cousins Collected: 34 ----------------- ==Lakeside Path== ----------------- At this point (or maybe slightly before now), you need to look at what's wandering around the path ahead of you. If you've gone through this quickly enough, you should see Havana (red body, wide head) coming towards you. Snag him if he's there, then roll to the right and pick up Nutsuo (white/blue stripes) hiding behind the tree. You may need to scare him out into the open area first. Next you should dash forward along the path, knocking over and rolling up Beyond if he's there, and the camouflaged Jungle (Warning! Can be hard to see!). Finally, circle around to the opposite end of the lakeside path and claim Odeko (tall purple head) hiding in the bushes. If you got Havana and Beyond along the way, then you're done! If not, then circle around the path counterclockwise and you'll find them quickly enough. -------------------------- ==Summary/Generalization== -------------------------- Short Version: this strategy eliminates Dipp by playing as him, and eliminates Ace by rolling him up before time starts. It then clears the lake-bottom depression and picks up the smaller cousins on part of the lakeside path, and then returns to the upper part of the level and clears it in a loop that goes up the left side, down to the center wrestling ring and then down the right side. From there, it circles the rest of the way around the other half of the lakeside path, picking up the larger cousins and wandering cousins to finish. ------------------- E. Movies/Cutscenes [WLKmovies] ------------------- Summaries submitted by The Prince's Bride... Here's my summaries, this format fine? I know it's a bit narrative, hopefully that's alright. It may get a bit confusing at times, I referred to the King as "the would-be King" or "the future King" to try to avoid confusion between the King and Grandpaw Cosmos. Chapter One: The Path of the Lion The King of All Cosmos wasn’t always the big, imposing ruler that we see today. Like the Prince, he used to be small and his father was the previous King of All Cosmos. As the movie opens up, the young would-be King is frantically scribbling over his homework as his father towers over him, threateningly displaying a bamboo stick. In the next few scenes, we can see that the King’s father also made him take piano, ballet, swimming, and boxing lessons. His father always maintained a stern, daunting presence in everything he participated in, always brandishing the bamboo stick. During the future King’s embarrassing boxing lesson in which the sandbag floored him, his father punished him for his failure with a nearby smack with the bamboo stick. As the future King rode in a car with his father, he looks longingly out the window to the ordinary children playing in the street. Chapter Two: Claws of the Tiger In this movie, we observe the beginning of a boxing match. The would-be King has grown a bit older and his opponent is a human boy. As his father watches avidly over the future King, both of them exchange several blows, but inevitably, the future King is knocked out. While he did place second and beat a rabbit, second place was not good enough for his father. His father was very disappointed in him: as the future King of All Cosmos, he had to be the best. His father threw the would-be King’s hard earned second place trophy in the water. The would-be King pouted as he watched his trophy sink into the depths of the river. Chapter Three: Hangdog Boogie After being scolded by his father for apparently eating a forbidden piece of strawberry shortcake, the future, now young adult King runs away from home on his motorcycle. We next find the King wandering around downtown at night with various signs of karaoke bars and arcades flashing in the background. Some punks start to intimidate him and pull out knifes, possibly to rob him. They scuffle around a bit. In the last scene, the would-be King is sitting among a group of trashcans in the morning with a blackeye. His pompadour was so damaged during the fight that it falls off. Dejectedly, the future King picks up his pompadour and walks off toward the mountains. Chapter Four: My Sweet Kitty Cat The scene opens with the would-be Queen eating some bread at home. Her cuckoo clock sounds off and she runs out of her mushroom home carrying a package and her bread. Approaching from the opposite direction, we see the future King, still suffering from the effects from the fight as he wipes off his mouth, holding his pompadour. Both the future King and Queen collide into each other. When they do, the King’s pompadour and the Queen’s bread meet, forming a heart. After their initial shock, their eyes meet and they are absolutely enamored by the sight of each other. Chapter Five: The Season for Meadowlarks This is a brief look into several scenes of the King and Queen’s courtship. The are in a meadow at the beginning. At first, the Queen is holding a radish while the King is running; a little later, they are both frolicking among flowers and animals. The King swings his sweetheart around in merriment. After that, the King is bringing them both ice cream but he trips, causing the Queen to laugh. Later, the Queen holds up the King while he climbs down a cliff and reaches for mushrooms. Afterward, they fly through the air. The scene ends with the King and the Queen sitting in the middle of a heart-shaped field of yellow flowers, holding each others’ hands. Chapter Six: Twining Serpents Apparently, the future King decided to return home as one can see from the castle foundations in the background. The future King is sitting outside, dreaming of his sweetheart as he blows bubbles into a straw colored beverage. When his father finds him, he scolds him severely. The future King decides that he doesn’t want to put up with his father’s scolding anymore so he walks away. His father, however punches him in the head and continues to chide him. The would-be King knocks his father to the ground. To his surprise, the King’s father does not strike him back, but he just walks away. The future King gazes at his hand in disbelief of what he had just done. Chapter Seven: No More Monkeying Around While the future King is in his room, he peeks outside to see what his father is doing. He is astounded to see his father gazing at his second place boxing trophy, which he thought his father had disposed of in the river. During a flashback, we see that after the King’s father had thrown his son’s trophy in the water, he went back down to the river and fished it out. The would-be King comes crying out of his room and bows before his father in apology. His father pats him softly on the head. Chapter Eight: The Animal’s Paean Blushing, the future King introduces his sweetheart to his father. With the future King at the wheel of a hovercar, they drive down to a stream and have a picnic. As they observe the beautiful mountains, the King’s father draws a rainbow in the sky. After they ride in a red panda head shaped hot air balloon, the would-be King and the Queen ride together on a white horse, and the King’s father rides beside them on a zebra. Unfortunately, the day does not end on a happy note. As they are observing a sunset by the ocean, the King’s father coughs briefly and keels over, causing the future King and Queen to panic. Chapter Nine: The Lion Never Falls It is winter at the Castle of All Cosmos now, and the King’s father is lying in bed. The future King and Queen quietly wait outside his room, the King is reading Medicine and the Queen is reading 1-up Your Life. After a little while, a bell rings and they enter his father’s room. His father tosses the crown onto the King’s head. As the Queen stares in disbelief at the crown on her sweetheart’s head and the King stares in disbelief at his father, his father gives a quick thumbs-up and his head sinks down. The King and Queen run to his father’s side but luckily he is only asleep. Chapter Ten: Long Live the Cosmos The scene opens up on a fully grown King of All Cosmos waiting in the hospital, pacing back and forth in worry. Shortly, he hears a baby crying and he starts toward the door. After the nurse lets him in, the King and Queen hold their new baby son, the Prince. The next scene takes place in the same area as the intro of Katamari Damacy. The cows look toward the mountains and run away in fear as the King and Queen jump up in down in glee, celebrating their son’s birth. The baby Prince slides down a rainbow and the Katamari Damacy logo flashes onto the screen. Chapter Eleven: "Rock-a-bye Baby" Chapter Eleven Variations from The Prince's Bride: I've noticed that you can get a total of 13 variations of Chapter 11 i
